Through my mentorship at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta I have experienced and learned so much. I have gained professional experience in the clinical aspect of the career field I one day want to be a part of. I have also gained so much knowledge about physical and occupational therapy, and how each session in those sub fields work. It was incredible to see how each patient approved in different ways every week, and to be a part of it was speechless. Being back with the patients every week helped me gain experience. Also being able to give suggestions throughout the sessions helped also.
This mentorship has prepared me for the future in so many positive ways. It has helped me narrow down that I definitely want to work with pediatrics of some sort in the medical profession. I have also now been in a professional environment which will help me because for the future I now know what it is like. I really enjoyed being able to work with my incredible mentors and their patients, and they have left a positive impact on me regarding pediatric medicine. Overall this mentorship has not changed my view of this career field, but it for sure has made it look even better then I had initially thought.
For future HMP students I highly encourage this program so you can see a career field first hand before college. Seeing if you like the career field before you go to college is super beneficial, and gives you the opportunity to see what you do or don’t like. When at your mentorship don’t sit back and watch, be involved and ask a lot of questions. The more you do and are involved the more you will get out of this incredible experience. I wish you the best of luck at your mentorship and remember to have fun!
