ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHIES

Annotated Bibliography 1

“Communication Profiles of Two Children with Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome”

The article “Communication Profiles of Two Children with Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome” fits into my potential research because I currently have a mentorship with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and I work with a young girl with Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome. With personal experience throughout my mentorship I will learn new information about this disorder first hand in the office. Having this article for my potential paper will give extra support with the clinical studies of two other Pitt-Hopkins Syndrome patients. Having first hand experience and this article, will help support my paper.

This article was very helpful for me because it has given me more knowledge on the disorder that I didn’t know before. This will allow me to be more helpful while at my mentorship, and be aware of all occurrences that could happen. When working on my potential project, I can use this article to help explain the disorder to those who are unaware. Also there is some very credible examples throughout the article to help strengthen my project. Such as the various experiments they performed to determine how different levels of severity of the disorder affect different areas of physical and mental activities. Having these examples help understand the disorder and will clarify any confusion readers might have about the condition.

Annotated Bibliography 2

"An adapted walking intervention for a child with Pitt Hopkins syndrome."

In this article it talks about a study done on a children walking with Pitt-Hopkins syndrome. This 4 year old child went through a 12 week intervention with 5 one hour walking sessions per week at a daycare. The child was given a mobility device to make walking easier. Results showed that when given a device to aid the disabilities from this disease, the child learns at a faster rate. As stated in the article “The Upsee mobility device is a feasible and fun way to promote inclusive community-based physical activity and social engagement in a young child with PTHS”.

As shown by using this mobile device it is a fun and productive way to help children with Pitt-Hopkins syndrome learn how to walk. This source is credible because it was an actual case study that was performed by a Disability & Rehabilitation center in January 2018. Since my project is based on what aid children can receive to help aid their disabilities, this articles helps put evidence into my project. Having this mobility device with strengthen my project.

Annotated Bibliography 3

“Exploring Preschool Teachers’ and Support Staff’s Use and Experiences of Assistive

Technology with Children withDisabilities.”

Throughout the article it talks about several different ATDs teachers are using to help improve the skills and learning of children with disabilities. "ATDs are defined as any item, piece of equipment or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customised, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of children with disabilities” (Tamakloe, 2). This study is after all children being able to acquire equal basic learning techniques.

Several teachers were used in the study in order to fully understand what teachers are using to help aid children with disabilities. One of the preschool teachers stated “Utilising the ATDs ... enabled children without verbal speech to communicate their needs, and enriched their overall experiences with the whole school community (ST)” (Cyndi, 34). This proves that technological advancements are effective in enhancing the learning of children with disabilities. This article is credible because it is from the source Galileo. This article is helpful because it provides extra evidence for my capstone project. This study proves that technology aids children with wide varieties of disabilities including Pitt Hopkins Syndrome.
