I feel that CHOA is a partner in my education because the field I want to pursue in my future is medical. Working with CHOA is teaching me so much, and there is so much more to learn. As my school is getting me an education, I am also learning so much from my mentorship. I believe this mentorship is a strong part of my education.
Have you learned about new jobs or careers while at your internship? If so, what are they and what are your thoughts about them?
I have learned a lot more than expected while at my mentorshipI have learned about the different fields of children medicine that is a possible option for me in the future. I had thought before physical therapy was one type of medicine, but there is so many different types of physical therapy. There is sports therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and occupational speech. Each of these are unique in different ways, and so far my favorite I have worked in is physical therapy with the little girl who has Pitt-Hopkins syndrome.
What have you done that has made your supervisor’s life easier?
While working with the little girl with Pitt-Hopkins syndrome, my mentor has stated several times how it is easier to have someone helping her. When working with her I get her towels, move the toys with the exercises we do, help assist her while working with the walker to help the little girl learn how to walk. Personally when I work along side with her, I can only imagine how difficult it is to work with a case such as this one alone. I believe with this particular case, I am very helpful for my mentor.
